49 Unit Townhome Development Approved for Grandin Road

FUNDRAISER EVENT
to be held
at Savor Cafe

Wesley Height Development

Hopper Communities was granted an approval by City Council in November for approximately 2.69 acres located on the north side of West 4th Street between Grandin Road and South Summit Avenue behind Bojangles.

The rezoning allows 45 new single-family attached dwelling units and a quadraplex dwelling for a total of 49 residences, at a density of 18.2 units per acre. The land that is rezoned is currently an empty lot. City council hopes that this adds additional residences near the new trolley line, so residents will be able to travel on the trolley to center city and on to Elizabeth.

Hopper Communities is led by Bart Hopper and is known for residential developments such as Stonewater across Catawba River.

In other new development news, 708 Summit apartments is scheduled to open this month to its first residents in the 35 new apartments.  Morehead West apartments also celebrated its grand opening in December, bringing more residents to the FreeMoreWest area! Studios at Morehead West start at $875, one bedrooms start at $920 and two-bedrooms start at $1,295.

We hear there’s another project about to break ground soon, so stay tuned!

Savor Cafe Fundraiser

Lori Pearson, owner of Savor Café (1404 West Morehead Street), has been battling cancer for some time now. She has accumulated huge medical expenses due to the illness. Some family and close friends have organized a fundraiser event to help offset some of her medical costs.

The fundraiser is a pasta dinner with homemade tomato sauce, a salad, and desert. Drinks and adult beverages will be available for purchase. The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, January 11th from 12noon until 4pm at Savor Café. You can either eat in or take it to go.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 and on the day of the event for $25. Tickets can be purchased at Savor Café now thru the day of the event. Shannon Hughes will also have tickets for sale for those of you interested in helping a neighbor. Lori lives in the Wesley Heights Community.

RSVP on the Facebook event page.
